Product Description of Ferrous Sulfate Heptahydrate CAS#7782-63-0
Ferrous sulfate (chemical formula FeSO₄) most commonly occurs as ferrous sulfate heptahydrate (FeSO₄·7H₂O), also known as green vitriol. It appears as light blue-green monoclinic crystals with a density of 1.898 g/cm³ and melts in its crystal water at 64°C. It is soluble in water, forming an acidic aqueous solution. When exposed to air, it gradually weathers and oxidizes into yellow-brown basic iron salts. Upon heating to 300°C, it loses all crystal water and becomes a white anhydrous powder.
Ferrous sulfate is prone to oxidation to a yellow or rust color in moist air. It dissolves readily in water, typically forming solutions of around 10% concentration. As a coagulant, it produces large flocs with excellent settling properties and high decolorization efficiency. Its low cost makes it an economical choice for wastewater treatment, particularly suitable for applications where the pH value exceeds 8.5.

Product Application of Ferrous Sulfate Heptahydrate CAS#7782-63-0
Ferrous sulfate, also known as ferrous sulfate heptahydrate, green vitriol, or dried ferrous sulfate, serves multiple industrial purposes. It is used as a reducing agent in electroplating plants, a flocculant for industrial wastewater treatment, and a precipitant in printing and dyeing operations. Additionally, it functions as a raw material in the production of iron oxide red pigments, pesticides, and fertilizers, and can be applied as a micronutrient supplement for plants and flowers.
Ferrous sulfate is widely utilized in printing and dyeing, papermaking, domestic sewage treatment, and for the clarification and decolorization of industrial wastewater. It is particularly effective in treating wastewater containing heavy metals such as chromium and cadmium, as well as in high-alkalinity and high-chroma effluents, helping to significantly reduce the need for neutralizing acids.
