Product Application of 2-Ethyl Anthraquinone CAS#84-51-5

2-Ethyl anthraquinone is first hydrogenated in a solvent to form 2-ethylhydroanthraquinone, which is then re-oxidized to regenerate 2-ethylanthraquinone while producing hydrogen peroxide. This cyclic reaction is widely applied in industrial hydrogen peroxide manufacturing. The compound can be synthesized through the Friedel–Crafts acylation of phthalic anhydride with ethylbenzene, or via a Diels–Alder reaction between 1,4-naphthoquinone and 2-ethyl-1,3-butadiene followed by dehydrogenation. It is mainly used in hydrogen peroxide production and as an intermediate for dyes. In addition, it serves as a photosensitizer in photosensitive resins, a catalyst for photocurable resins, and is applied in photodegradable films, coatings, and as an initiator for photosensitive polymerization.
