Petrolatum CAS#8009-03-8
High Purity and Stability: Petrolatum is purified from lubricating oil fractions, offering stable chemical properties and reliable performance for pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and precision applications.
Excellent Lubrication and Protection: It provides effective lubrication under light loads and forms a protective barrier, helping prevent rust and corrosion on metal parts, medical devices, and precision instruments.
Wide Application Versatility: Suitable for medical, cosmetic, and industrial uses, petrolatum can be applied in ointments, skin protection creams, rubber softening, leather treatment, and machinery maintenance.
Safe and Skin-Friendly for Medical Use: Medical-grade petrolatum (white and yellow) is widely used in ointments and skincare formulations due to its good skin compatibility and protective properties, making it ideal for healthcare and cosmetic products.
Petrolatum CAS#8009-03-8
Petrolatum (Vaseline) is obtained by purifying maltenes from lubricating oil and consists of a blend of residual oil and waxes. It serves as an essential lubricant and base material for pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, fine chemical raw materials, and precision instruments. In China, petrolatum products are mainly categorized into regular petrolatum, industrial petrolatum, and medical petrolatum.
Regular petrolatum is commonly used in the preparation of various ointments and as a softening agent for dark-colored rubber products. Industrial petrolatum is applied to protect metal products and fixed mechanical components from corrosion and to lubricate machinery under light operating loads; it is also used as a treatment agent for leather and as a rubber softener.
Medical petrolatum is the most widely used type and is further divided into white medical petrolatum and yellow medical petrolatum. It is extensively utilized in the manufacture of ointments, skin-protection creams, and cosmetic raw materials, as well as serving as an anti-rust and lubricating material for medical devices and precision instruments.

Product Usage
Owing to its colorless and odorless nature, chemical inertness, semi-solid texture, lipophilic characteristics, and excellent adhesion, this product is well suited for use as a base material in hair creams, hair conditioners, eye creams, lipsticks, wax bases, and similar formulations. Medical-grade petrolatum (vaseline) is widely used as an ointment base because it is generally compatible with almost all pharmaceutical ingredients, with only minor formulation adjustments required.
Hydrophilic petrolatum can be prepared by heating and thoroughly mixing petrolatum with alcohols such as stearyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, and cholesterol. This hydrophilic ointment base offers strong permeability, good stability, and low irritation. It may be used alone to treat conditions such as dry skin rashes, erythema, papules, and related skin disorders, and is particularly effective for removing blood scabs and scaling.
Petrolatum can also function as a non-ionic emulsifier compatible with cholesterol, giving it a very broad range of formulation compatibility. In addition, its absorbent properties allow it to be used together with liquid medications or aqueous drug solutions. Industrial-grade petrolatum is commonly applied as a rubber softener, a corrosion inhibitor for metal equipment, and a raw material for rust-preventive greases.
