Dicyandiamide CAS#461-58-5

Applications of Dicyandiamide (CAS#461-58-5):

Raw Material for Guanidine Salts and Cyanamide: Dicyandiamide can react with acids to produce various guanidine salts. Additionally, when reacted with benzonitrile, it produces cyanamide, which serves as an intermediate in the manufacturing of coatings, laminates, and molding powders.

Dye Fixative: The resin formed by the reaction of dicyandiamide with formaldehyde can be used as a dye fixative.

Fertilizers: Dicyandiamide and its compound fertilizers are used to control the activity of nitrifying bacteria, regulate the conversion rate of nitrogen fertilizers in soil, reduce nitrogen loss, and enhance the efficiency of fertilizer usage.

Fine Chemical Intermediate: In the pharmaceutical industry, dicyandiamide is used to produce guanidine nitrate, sulfonamide drugs, thiourea, and other chemicals like nitrocellulose stabilizers, rubber vulcanization accelerators, steel surface hardeners, artificial leather fillers, and adhesives. It can also react with formic acid to yield the pharmaceutical intermediate 5-azacytosine.

Other Applications: Dicyandiamide is used in testing cobalt, nickel, copper, and palladium, organic synthesis, as a nitrocellulose stabilizer, hardener, detergent, vulcanization accelerator, and resin synthesis.
