Rutin CAS#153-18-4
Natural Occurrence: Widely distributed in plants like buckwheat, citrus peel, and tomatoes, making it easily accessible from various sources.
High Rutin Content in Sophora Japonica: Commonly sourced from this plant, valued for its high rutin content.
Hygroscopic: Absorbs moisture, which can enhance its solubility and reactivity.
Versatile Solubility: Soluble in pyridine and water, making it suitable for different extraction methods and formulations.
Rutin is a naturally occurring flavonoid widely distributed in the plant kingdom. It is especially abundant in plants from families such as Rutaceae, Sectaceae, Epacridaceae, Polygonaceae (notably in buckwheat), Hypericaceae (such as Eulali), and Rhamnaceae (e.g., Berchemia polyphylla var. leioclada). Leaves of wild wutong and thistle are also commonly used for rutin extraction. Additionally, rutin is present in plants like Ilex pubescens (Aquifoliaceae), Forsythia (Oleaceae), pagoda tree pods (Leguminosae), as well as in tobacco, jujube, apricots, citrus peel, and tomatoes.
Currently, in China, the main source of rutin extraction is Sophora japonica Linn (Leguminosae), which is highly valued and listed among the top-grade herbs in Shen Nong’s Classic Materia Medica. Another important source is tartary buckwheat, a plant rich in rutin and other flavonoids. Originally native to India, tartary buckwheat is now widely cultivated in various regions of China, including the northwest, southwest, north, and south, serving as both a food and medicinal resource due to its high rutin content.
