Product Application of O-Phenanthroline CAS#66-71-7
1,10-Phenanthroline is a widely used ligand in the spectroscopic determination of metals and in spectroscopic studies related to CO₂ reduction. It is also applied in cross-linking reactions of organic boric acids catalyzed by Cu(II). In addition, it functions as a redox indicator and as a reagent for the determination of titanium and iron.
This compound readily forms coordination complexes with metals such as iron, copper, cobalt, and nickel, as well as with 2,2′-bipyridine, and produces a red complex with Fe²⁺. It can be oxidized by potassium permanganate to yield 2,2′-dipyridyl-3,3′-dicarboxylic acid. Furthermore, it is used as a quantitative colorimetric reagent for copper and iron and serves as an indicator in the titration of iron salts with cerium sulfate.
