Products Description of IPHO CAS#78-59-1
Isophorone, also known as 1,1,3-trimethylcyclohexenone, has the scientific name 3,5,5-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1-one. It is a six-membered cyclic α,β-unsaturated ketone with the molecular formula C₉H₁₄O.
This compound appears as a colorless to pale yellow volatile liquid with a characteristic camphor- or mint-like odor and can naturally occur in cranberries. It is insoluble in water but readily soluble in many organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, and acetone. When exposed to light, it may form dimers, and in air it can oxidize to produce 4,4,6-trimethyl-1,2-cyclohexanedione.
