Product Details

Products Description of Trimanganese Tetraoxide CAS#1317-35-7

Manganese tetraoxide appears as a black tetragonal crystalline material and is also known as manganese pyroxene, black manganese ore, or active manganese oxide. It is obtained through calcination and has a spinel-type crystal structure, making it an important industrial raw material.

Trimanganese tetraoxide is primarily used in the electronics industry as a key material for manufacturing soft ferrites. These soft ferrites are produced by sintering and molding manganese, zinc, and iron oxides in specific proportions. They feature a narrow remanent magnetic induction curve, allow repeated magnetization, and possess high DC resistivity, which helps minimize eddy current losses.

Product Application of Trimanganese Tetraoxide CAS#1317-35-7

Trimanganese tetraoxide is primarily applied in the electronics industry as a key raw material for the manufacture of soft ferrites. These soft ferrites are produced by blending manganese, zinc, and iron oxides in specific proportions followed by sintering. They are characterized by a narrow remanent magnetic induction curve, good repeatable magnetization, and high DC resistivity, which effectively reduces eddy current losses. As a result, they are widely used in magnetic cores, disks, and tapes for data storage in electronic computers, as well as in transformers, high-quality inductors for telephones, TV flyback transformers, magnetic recording heads, inductors, magnetic amplifiers, saturated inductors, antenna rods, and related components.

In addition, trimanganese tetraoxide can also serve as a pigment in certain paints and coatings. Coatings containing manganese tetraoxide applied to steel surfaces provide improved corrosion resistance compared with those formulated with titanium dioxide or iron oxide.
