Potassium iodide CAS#7681-11-0

  • Essential Source of Bioavailable Iodine: Potassium iodide provides an effective and easily absorbed iodine source, supporting thyroid hormone synthesis and maintaining normal metabolic functions in livestock and poultry.

  • Promotes Healthy Growth and Productivity: Supplementing feed with potassium iodide helps prevent iodine deficiency–related thyroid disorders, improving growth, development, and overall productivity, especially in young animals.

  • Enhances Output Quality in High-Yield Animals: It meets the increased iodine requirements of high-yielding dairy cows and laying hens, increasing iodine content in milk and eggs and supporting stable production performance.

  • Added Health Value of Animal Products: Iodine-enriched eggs and milk offer additional health benefits to consumers, such as potential cholesterol reduction and support for cardiovascular health, increasing product value.

Product Description of Potassium Iodide (CAS No. 7681-11-0)

Potassium iodide is an ionic compound in which iodide ions readily react with silver ions to form a dark yellow silver iodide precipitate. This compound is light-sensitive and can decompose under illumination, making it useful in the production of high-speed photographic films. For this reason, silver nitrate is commonly employed to detect the presence of iodide ions.

Iodine, an essential component of thyroid hormones, plays a vital role in regulating the basal metabolism of livestock and poultry and is involved in nearly all metabolic activities. A deficiency of iodine in animals can lead to thyroid enlargement and hyperplasia, reduced basal metabolic rate, and impaired growth and development. Therefore, iodine supplementation is necessary in feeds for young animals and for livestock and poultry raised in iodine-deficient regions.

Animals with high production demands, such as high-yield dairy cows and laying hens, require increased iodine intake, which must also be supplied through feed. As dietary iodine levels rise, the iodine content in milk and eggs correspondingly increases. Studies indicate that iodine-enriched eggs may help lower cholesterol levels in humans and provide health benefits for individuals with hypertension.

Product Application of Potassium Iodide CAS#7681-11-0

Potassium iodide is an approved iodine fortifier for food use. In China, regulations specify its application in infant foods at levels of 0.3–0.6 mg/kg, and in table salt at a dosage of 30–70 mg/kg. As a key component of thyroid hormones, iodine is involved in the metabolism of all substances in livestock and poultry and plays an important role in maintaining body heat balance. It is essential for normal growth, reproduction, and lactation in animals.

Supplementing potassium iodide can enhance growth performance, support overall health, and improve productivity in livestock and poultry. Conversely, iodine deficiency may result in metabolic disorders, physiological abnormalities, thyroid enlargement, impaired nerve function, changes in fur color, and reduced feed digestion and absorption, ultimately leading to delayed growth and development.
