Sodium dodecyl sulfate CAS#151-21-3

                - Excellent surfactant properties — Provides strong emulsification, foaming, penetration, detergency, and dispersibility.
- Good compatibility — Works well with both anionic and non-ionic substances.
- Rapid biodegradability — Environmentally friendly with quick degradation in nature.
- Highly water-soluble — Easily dissolves in water, making it effective in various formulations.
Sodium dodecyl sulfate, an anionic surfactant, is a typical representative of sulfate surfactants. Commonly referred to as SDS, it is also known by other names such as AS, K12, sodium coconut sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate, and foaming agent. The commercially available products are typically white to light yellow crystalline powders that are non-toxic, slightly soluble in alcohol, insoluble in chloroform and ether, but easily soluble in water. It exhibits good compatibility with both anionic and non-ionic substances. Sodium dodecyl sulfate offers excellent emulsification, foaming, penetration, detergency, and dispersibility, with rich foam and rapid biodegradability. However, its water solubility is lower than that of sodium fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether sulfate (AES).

Sodium dodecyl sulfate is highly effective in cleaning, emulsification, and foaming. It serves as a detergent and textile auxiliary, and is widely used in various applications, including as anionic surfactants, toothpaste foaming agents, mine fire extinguishing agents, fire extinguishing foams, emulsion polymerization emulsifiers, and pharmaceutical emulsifying dispersants. It is also used in cosmetics such as shampoos, wool detergents, and detergents for fine silk and wool fabrics. Additionally, it functions as a flotation agent in metal beneficiation.
According to GB 2760-96, it is recognized as a processing aid in the food industry, where it acts as a foaming agent, emulsifier, and anionic surfactant. It is used in products such as cakes, beverages, protein, fresh fruits, fruit juice drinks, and edible oils.
