Oleanolic acid CAS#508-02-1

                - Natural origin — Derived from olive pomace oil and widely found in plants and foods.
- Versatile bioactivity — Exhibits hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer effects.
- Chemical flexibility — Can transform into related compounds like ursolic acid, taraxasterol, and amyrin.
- Precursor for saponins — Acts as an aglycone precursor linked to sugar chains, expanding its functional applications.
Oleanolic acid, also known as oleanic acid, is a naturally occurring pentacyclic triterpenoid with the chemical formula C30H48O3. It is found in the non-glyceride fraction of olive pomace oil and is widely present in various foods and plants, where it exists either as a free acid or as an aglycone precursor for triterpenoid saponins, which can be linked to one or more sugar chains. Biosynthesized from lupane, oleanolic acid can rearrange into its isomer, ursolic acid, or be oxidized into taraxasterol and amyrin. Both oleanolic acid and its derivatives exhibit promising pharmacological properties, including hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer activities.

Oleanolic acid, a triterpenoid renowned for its anti-inflammatory effects, is commonly found in various medicinal plants. It inhibits secretory phospholipase A2 and is primarily used to treat acute jaundiced hepatitis with notable effectiveness. Additionally, it has demonstrated positive results in managing chronic hepatitis.
