Trichloroacetic acid CAS# 76-03-9

                - Strong Solubility: Highly soluble in water, ethanol, and ether, enhancing its versatility in formulations.
- High Stability: Stable under normal conditions, though sensitive to moisture and incompatible with strong bases.
- Corrosive and Hygroscopic: Effective for applications requiring high reactivity and moisture absorption.
- High Purity and Precision: Available in a highly pure form, providing precise chemical reactions in various applications.
Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is a colorless or white orthorhombic crystal with a strong, pungent odor. Highly deliquescent and corrosive, its molecular mass is 163.40, and it has a relative density of 1.6298 at 61°C. It melts at 57-58°C and boils at 197.5°C (or 141-142°C under 3.333×10³ Pa pressure). The refractive index is 1.4603 at 61°C, and its vapor pressure at 51°C is 0.133×10³ Pa. TCA is soluble in water, ethanol, and ether, with an aqueous solution being acidic (pH 1.2 at 0.1 mol/L).
Its solubility at 25°C is 1306 in water, 2143 in methanol, and 617 in ether. Aqueous solutions below 30% slowly decompose into chloroform, hydrogen chloride, carbon dioxide, and carbon monoxide. In dilute alkaline solutions, it hydrolyzes into chloroform and carbon dioxide, while in concentrated alkali, it forms formic acid. When reacting with strong alkalis, it breaks down into chloroform and carbonate.
