Centella asiatica (L.) Urban refers to the dried whole plant or the whole herb including roots from the Umbelliferae species Centella asiatica (L.) Urban. Commonly known as Gotu Kola, Horse Hoof Grass, or Lode, it can be harvested throughout the year and is widely available. This plant thrives in Southeast Asia, Australia, South Africa, and tropical regions of Central Africa, with a long-standing history of medicinal use in various countries. 

Centella asiatica has a cold nature and bitter taste. According to Chemicalbook, it possesses properties that clear heat and dampness, detoxify, and reduce swelling. It is primarily used to treat conditions such as damp-heat jaundice, heatstroke-induced diarrhea, abscesses, sores, and physical injuries. Asiaticoside, classified as a pentacyclic triterpenoid compound, exhibits multiple pharmacological effects, including anti-ulcer, wound-healing, anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory properties. Currently, it is mainly applied in the treatment of scleroderma, as well as skin trauma and burns.
