Glycidyl methacrylate CAS#106-91-2

                - Dual functional groups – Combines a methacrylate and an epoxy group, enabling versatile chemical reactivity.
- Excellent copolymerization – Easily copolymerizes with phenols, acids, amines, and ketones for broad application potential.
- Enhanced performance properties – Improves durability, mechanical strength, and adhesion in final products.
- Good optical clarity and processability – Offers transparency and compatibility with most organic solvents.
Glycidyl Methacrylate (GMA) is a transparent, colorless liquid with a strong ester and fruity fragrance. It features a polymerizable methacrylate group at one end and a reactive epoxy group at the other. GMA is slightly miscible with water, soluble in most organic solvents, and has a relatively low volatility. Its vapor is denser than air. It easily copolymerizes with a range of functional groups, including phenols, ketones, acids, and amines. The presence of the epoxy group enhances durability, mechanical strength, optical clarity, and adhesion properties.

Glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) is a widely used monomer in the production of epoxy resins. It serves to provide epoxy functionalization to polyolefins and other acrylate resins. GMA is commonly employed in manufacturing polymer coatings, finishes, adhesives, plastics, and elastomers. Glycidyl methacrylate dextran has been explored as a biocompatible hydrogel. Additionally, in situ polymerization of GMA with trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate to create macroporous sorbents has been reported. GMA can also be grafted onto polypropylene.
