β-glucan is a significant anti-nutritional factor in feed. It cannot be hydrolyzed by the digestive enzymes secreted by monogastric animals. Water-soluble β-glucan swells in water to form a highly viscous solution, increasing the viscosity of gastrointestinal chyme, hindering the release and diffusion of nutrients, reducing digestive enzyme activity, and impairing nutrient digestion and absorption.

This enzyme preparation is primarily used in the sugar industry to reduce the viscosity of sugarcane juice, which has an increased glucan content due to spoiled sugarcane. This increases the heating rate of the juice and shortens chemical clarification and crystallization times. To use, add 30 IU of glucanase per liter of juice and maintain it at 40°C for 20 minutes, which will decompose 68% of the glucan.
