Cyclohexane CAS# 110-82-7

                - Effective Solvent: Cyclohexane is miscible with organic solvents like ethanol, ether, and acetone, making it a versatile solvent in various industrial processes.
- Stable under Mild Conditions: It remains stable in acids, alkalis, and medium concentrations of nitric acid, making it resistant to environmental factors.
- Versatile Chemical Reactions: Cyclohexane can undergo nitration, dehydrogenation, and isomerization, providing various synthetic pathways for other chemicals.
- Volatile and Flammable: Cyclohexane has a low flash point and can form explosive mixtures with air, requiring careful handling in industrial settings.
Cyclohexane is a colorless liquid with a gasoline-like odor. It is insoluble in water but miscible with organic solvents like ethanol, ether, acetone, and benzene. In methanol, its solubility is 57 parts per 100 parts at 25°C. Volatile and flammable, it has a flash point of 18°C, and its vapor forms an explosive mixture with air, with an explosion limit of 1.3-8.3%.
Cyclohexane is stable in acids and alkalis and does not react with medium concentrations of nitric acid at low temperatures. However, it undergoes nitration with dilute nitric acid above 100°C to form nitrocyclohexane. Dehydrogenation above 350°C with platinum or palladium catalysts produces benzene. It can also isomerize with aluminum oxide, molybdenum sulfide, copper, or nickel-aluminum to form methylpentane, and with aluminum trichloride to form methylcyclopentane.
