Sodium Fluorosilicate CAS#16893-85-9

                - Hygroscopic: Absorbs moisture from the air, enhancing its reactivity in certain conditions.
- Acidic Solubility: Solubility increases in acidic environments, making it useful in various applications.
- Thermal Decomposition: Decomposes at high temperatures to produce sodium fluoride and silicon tetrafluoride gas.
- Stable at Room Temperature: Remains stable under normal conditions, though sensitive to moisture and oxidizing agents.
Sodium fluorosilicate appears as a white crystalline powder or colorless hexagonal crystals. It is both odorless and tasteless, with a relative density of approximately 2.68. This compound is hygroscopic, meaning it can absorb moisture from the air. It is soluble in certain solvents like ethyl ether but remains insoluble in alcohol. Its solubility increases in acidic environments compared to water. In alkaline solutions, it decomposes into sodium fluoride and silica. When heated to around 300 °C, it undergoes thermal decomposition, yielding sodium fluoride and silicon tetrafluoride gas.
