Aluminum Phosphide CAS#20859-73-8

                - Effective fumigant that releases phosphine gas for pest control.
- Reacts with moisture to produce a toxic, pyrophoric gas for efficient disinfection.
- Available as stable gray or dark yellow crystalline form for ease of handling.
- Highly reactive, enabling spontaneous ignition upon air exposure for rapid action.
Aluminum phosphide is a binary salt and part of the NCHP group (refer to Chapter 2). These salts pose a particular hazard as they release toxic and pyrophoric phosphine gas when exposed to moisture, such as humid air, water, or steam. They can also ignite spontaneously upon contact with air. This substance appears as gray or dark yellow crystals and presents a significant fire hazard.

Aluminum phosphide (AlP) is primarily used as a fumigant to control insects and rodents in both food and non-food crops within indoor settings. It is also applied outdoors to manage rodent populations by treating their burrows or grain storage sites. Because of its widespread use in protecting rice, it is sometimes referred to as a "rice tablet" in certain countries. AlP is supplied in solid forms, including tablets, pellets, and dust, for convenient application.
